Monica Berra is an Emmy-nominated producer who specializes in non-fiction, archive-based films.

Based in Miami, Florida, she has more than a decade of experience in documentary long-form, short-form and episodic content, across all aspects of production, from development through final delivery. Her work has been featured on HBO, PBS, WORLD Channel, Field of Vision, NYT Op-Docs, YouTube Originals, The Atlantic and elsewhere.

Most recently, she co-produced and archival produced Sasha Wortzel's feature documentary, River of Grass (True/False 2025), produced John Maggio’s feature documentary, Paul Anka: His Way (Toronto 2024), archival produced the documentary series Long Time Sun (SXSW 2024) and produced HBO’s A Choice of Weapons: Inspired by Gordon Parks (Tribeca 2021).

Monica is endlessly fascinated by the archival discovery process and its ability to deeply transform the narratives we construct. She frequently consults with filmmakers on archival research, budgeting and workflow, and has been an invited guest speaker on the subject in various university classrooms. Most recently, she gave a Master Class in Archival Producing at the 2025 Miami Film Festival.

Monica has an MFA in Documentary Film from Wake Forest University. She is the recipient of the 2025 RiverRun Film Festival Spark Award and was a 2023-2024 Impact Partners Producing Fellow. She is a proud member of the Archival Producer Alliance, Video Consortium, and Brown Girls Doc Mafia.

Outside of filmmaking, Monica volunteers with various wildlife conservation groups in South Florida and is an avid scuba diver.
